Nutritional Counseling

Meet Dr. Ian Stern our own Board Certified Nutritionist. Upon joining Harbor Fitness you may schedule an appointment on Wednesday or Thursday eveningsDr. Stern will design a personalized diet you can follow that will compliment your workout routine. Diet and exercise go hand-in-hand. No one can achieve their fitness goals without a balance of both proper diet and proper exercise. Harbor Fitness will get you started on the road to a new and improved you though education in these two philosophies.

Let us help you get started:
Dr. Ian Stern’s Eight Facts That Illustrate Water’s Importance To Good Health

  1. Your chance of bladder cancer drops 7% for every 8 ounces of water we drink per day
  2. It’s a mistake to wait for thirst to drink water. If you wait for thirst it’s a sign that you are already minimally dehydrated.
  3. Minimal dehydration can cause symptoms of muscle fatigue, muscle soreness, headaches, and constipation.
  4. Fiber pulls water from muscles into intestines. Therefore NEVER consume high fiber foods before working out. For example; Beans, Vegetables, and Apples.
  5. Do not consider Coffee, Tea, and Diet Soda towards your daily intake of water. All are diuretics and actually increase the need for MORE water.
  6. For every pound you lose during a workout, you need to consume 24 ounces of water to stay hydrated.
  7. Your Brain is 75% Water
    Your Muscles are 75% Water
    Your Bones are 22% Water
  8. Drink filtered, distilled water. Your tap water contains chlorine, radon, lead, flouride, and other toxic chemicals.

Harbor Fitness Juice Bar

Harbor Fitness is now proudly serving Dr. Smoothie brand recovery & performance shakes.

Our shakes are made from 100% fruit purees with no added sugar. Our purees start as vine ripened fruit, which are harvested at the peak of their season. Puree is then made using the entire fruit (skin, seeds and pulp) to retain all of the vitamins and fiber. For more information, download our "Create A Shake" brochure.

FACT:
Whether your goals are fat loss, muscle gain or just maintaining, your body still needs to recover quickly following a workout. To achieve your goals, the first step is recovery.
Glycogen is the stored sugar that out body uses for immediate energy. Since the human body can only store between 200 to 500 grams of glycogen, it is entirely possible & likely to burn all of those calories in a 60 – 90 minute session of intense exercise. Glycogen must be present to burn fat; if not available, your body converts muscle into glycogen. So it is important that we are continually replacing out stored energy throughout the day especially following your workout.

Did You Know?
Breaking up your caloric intake into five smaller meals, instead of three large ones, can help curb binges while keeping your sugar levels stable throughout the day. Larger meals raise blood sugar levels, triggering an increase in the release of insulin within the bloodstream. Insulin, in turn, tells your body to store excess calories as fat, rather than using them for energy.

Help yourself stabilize daily caloric intake with one of our menu of Dr. Smoothie’s Shakes:
